Top 10 Trade Names 2011

The Trade deadline is approaching fast, with many big names being rumored to move. Today a buddy and I, sat down and composed a list of the top ten trade names this year.

10 – Bryan McCabe [Florida Panthers]
Florida is falling out of the race and are in search of more assets for the future. Upcoming UFA defenseman Bryan McCabe should be a common name in the rumor mill for any teams looking to add some offense and leadership to their back end.

9 – Ales Hemsky [Edmonton Oilers]
With the Edmonton Oilers working on a full rebuild, a changing of the guard might be seen. Teams looking for high talent offense, may look to the Oilers for Hemsky. There may be a team, or teams, that make an enticing offer to the Oilers, and see Hemsky exit the young line-up.

8 – Jean-Sebastien Giguere [Toronto Maple Leafs]
The Maple Leafs are trying to grab as many assets as they can with expiring contracts. Giguere fits the mold. If there is a deal to be had with the veteran, I don't see Burke turning it down. With the strong play from rookie James Rimier, it could get interesting if a team looses their starting goalie in the next couple weeks.

7 – Chris Versteeg [Toronto Maple Leafs] TRADED TO PHI FOR 2 DRAFT PICKS
What’s not to like about a well-rounded, experienced, yet still young, winger, who brings a Stanley Cup ring? He could be one of the most talked about names in the following weeks. Any team looking for secondary scoring with some help on the penalty kill, could end up going after Versteeg; A steep price may need to be given for his services.

6 – Jason Spezza [Ottawa Senators]
First line center who has not had the pleasure of playing with top end talent in some time now. Spezza, may become the talk for teams looking for an impact player at the center position. Ottawa needs to tear down and rebuild, Jason Spezza could grab the Sens some much needed assets. Loosing Spezza will hurt the Sens, but a package with a First Rounder, Prospect, and Roster Player could be too much to turn down.

5 – Tomas Vokoun [Florida Panthers]
Florida likes him; so does the NHL. Most teams would love to have Vokoun between the pipes each night, however in Florida, he isn’t in a position that is beneficial to him. He is entering his prime now, and he could be the most sought after goalie this year via Trade.

4 – Chris Phillips [Ottawa Senators]
Another Senator, another asset. All teams who are looking to solidify their defense could be looking to acquire Phillips for the playoffs. Most teams in the NHL could use him on the back end. Look for his name to be a popular topic come the deadline.

3 – Tomas Kaberle [Toronto Maple Leafs]
Another year, and its that time again to play “Will he Waive”. Kaberle has been one of the most talked about players in the NHL in recent memory. He could make any team better on the powerplay, and at a very affordable price. Look for many teams to go after him, and more importantly look for the teams who have been rumored to be interested (BOS, MON, NYR, BUF, SJ). This year could be the year we see Kaberle wearing another sweater.

2 – Toronto 1st Rounder [Boston Bruins]
The final piece left over from the Kessel trade. Boston has let it be known that the pick may be available. Speculation will run wild for who it may be able to get, but it can be guaranteed. The 1st rounder will be one of the most talked about things come trade deadline.

1 – Brad Richards [Dallas Stars]
Some would argue, Brad Richards is the centerpiece of the Dallas Stars. So why is his name going to be a hot topic come the trade deadline? Ownership. The Stars ownership is unsure whether they can re-sign their star center. It is a similar situation that the Thrashers went through with Kovalchuk. We will be hearing a lot about Richards - To trade or not to trade (Or even resign) - up until the deadline. He will surely be the most talked about asset during the Trades.

What do you think? Here are two, 3-way blockbuster trades we came up with.
