Hockeyman Sunday Feb 13 recap

Mario Lemieux lashed out on the NHL saying “If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to rethink whether I want to be part of it.” This coming from the man who employees the always controversial Matt Cooke. With Crosby and Malkin out of site at the moment, the Pen's took an early lead against the NY.  The Rangers, who were coming into this game on a 6 game losing streak, battled back in the 3rd period scoring 5 straight goals to take the win. The other team involved in an embarrassing and  forgettable game for the NHL, the NY Islanders, were also in action tonight. In another high scoring affair the Isle never gave up, Michael Grabner scored 3 goals including the OT winner. The young forward has been on a tear as of late scoring 15 goals in his last 14 games. Impressive !! Johnathan Quick recorded his 5th shut out of the season stopping 40 shots and leading his team to a close 1-0 game vs Philadelphia. The goalies have really looked good this year and this was no different with the Blue Jackets last man back Steve Mason. Mason shut the door on tough guy Steve Ott late in the third to hold Dallas to a 2-1 deficit.Todd Burtuzzi out scored the Boston Bruins this weekend 4-3, earning 2 goals in each of the 2 games. Since the big fight in Montreal, Boston hasn't looked  the same, leading me to believe they are over confident OR all the trade talks have taken their focus off winning hockey games. My Dark Horse of the season goes to Carolina. With their win tonight over Atlanta they took sole possession of 8th place and are putting the pressure on the Rangers, who are only 2 points ahead in the standings.Carolina, I think will make the playoffs this year and they might just surprise some people. Good job Jimmy Rutherford!!
