Heritage Classic Recap

Miikka Kiprusoff was the story in the Heritage Classic outdoor game in Calgary, continuing his hot streak in the frigged cold. Credited with the first star of the game Kipper shut down any kind of attack, getting his first shut out in nearly 3 months. Turning away 39 shots Calgary's offense didn't take the night off either. Renee Bourque lead the way with 2 goals(100th career). The recent success of the flames can be awarded to the play of all four lines. Mike Cammalleri, made his return to the Montreal line up, but couldn't seem to jump start the struggling hab's. Carey Price came to play, with a new mask, and was extremely  focused.  But Calgary capitalized on the bouncing pucks and  were too strong on the boards creating 6 odd man rushes in the second period alone. Down 3-0 in the third  Montreal didn't fair much better losing the affair 4-0. Jumping from 9th to 6th place in the west the flames now can be named the hottest team in the NHL. The play-off race is heating up, with Montreal really needing the 2 points to remain in a safe position ahead of the eager teams below (Car,Atl,Buf,). Now lets talk about how ridiculous this game was. The ice conditions, contributed to many problems. The puck bounced around like a tennis ball, the players/referees were falling down, and  I saw only 3 hits! This tells me the respect factor was in full effect. I don't see how you can take this game seriously. Looking forward, how about we don't push for more of theses embarrassing games. Here's an idea... keep all of the variables for every team the same. The only way this game works for me is exhibition. Due to the lack of snow, I don't see this outdoor game working for the NHL. I felt like I was watching a cheap version of the half time show at the super bowl.  Have we not gotten over the hype of an outdoor game? Sidney Crosby goes down in the first outdoor game this season, now today's pathetic display of NHL hockey, enough is enough. Thank the hockey gods no one was injured and lets stop this insanity.
