Zdeno Chara Hit On Max Pacioretty

(An example of Chara's strength)

On March 8th the most controversial hit of the season was delivered. With all of the head shots lately, the NHL was going to be examined under a microscope for the decision on the hit.  Max Pacioretty was hit into the turn buckle that separates the glass from the boards in between the benches by Chara. At no point do you want to see anybody injured but with the nature of contact sports, injuries occur. Although the controversial hit left Pacioretty  life-less on the ice, I am going to side with the NHL as I usually do. Upon further review Colin Campbell & Mike Murphy deemed the hit  "A  hockey play, with a bad outcome", and no suspension was handed out. Zdeno Chara and Max Pacioretty have had a competitive rivalry during the games between the two, original six teams. So it is fair to say that Chara was trying to hit Pacioretty through the boards with his shoulder. The out come, in my eyes, wasn't what anyone would want on their shoulders. Pacioretty followed the boards and unfortunately ended up hitting his head on the partition. If Chara wanted to injure Max he could have done it in so many other ways. Its not as if the puck was no where near the play and Chara took his head off. The CORRECT call was made on the ice. Interference.  When engaging in a physical battle with Chara you need to be prepared,  I am sure nothing could have prepared Pacioretty for the outcome. It was a unavoidable freak accident involving two hard working hockey players. My best regards go out to Max and his family. The whole hockey world is on your side and wish you a speedy recovery.      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jimZ1tSdPY0

your a habs fan aren't you lol.....I have watched Chara play the game with the same intensity from the start of his career. I hate chara but don't think at that rate of speed he could have timed anything open Your eyes and see what 90 % of people who has any knowledge of hockey are saying. the call on the ice was fair he interfered with then play. the same play happens daily with a positive outcome. At no point can you say Chara had the time in his head to conger the idea of taking his head off no look style. you would have to be magical to pull that off. unfortunate accidents happen why don't you take a look at the real goons on the ice IE matt cooke and trevor gillies thanks for imput !!!

If you start exonerating players because of the speed of the game, then half of all penalties called become irrelevant. There's a point where intention becomes rather irrelevant. Is it going to take a death on the rink for the NHL to open its eyes? It's a sickening feeling to know the NHL cares more about following a traditionalist rulebook than the safety of its players. The thing is, if Gillies or Cooke had done this exact hit, they would have gotten suspensions. All the NHL has done now is sent the message that all players with clean records can do whatever they want and they won't get suspended.

no they would not have not. instead of saying if if if why don't you just open your eyes and see Chara never intended to do any kind of damage to that extent of course he was trying to hit him through the boards i have pt2 coming take a look at that and then ill listen to you

The point is, at a certain point, intent does not matter. And I didn't call the Montreal police so half of your second blog doesn't apply to me; shots at fans adds nothing to your argument. A 3-strike system is a good idea to look into.

It wasn't "a good hockey hit". If Pacioretty had the puck then yes but it was an interference penalty that had an injury as a result.

2 Games suspended to let them know that if you're going to break the rules and someone gets hurt there will be reprisals.

The problem with the hit... It was given by Chara. Regardless, the NHL did the right thing. Yes this hit turned out to be horrific with the Injury. Yes it sucks that one the the Habs best prospects/players should miss SERIOUS time. Yes there is a HUGE deal being made about this. But, NO, the NHL should not look at changing even MORE rules and suspending Chara. With all things aside, it was a hockey play, Chara was just rubbing him out of the checking (Now some of you might argue interference - Well thats why he got a penalty to begin with). The referees called it perfectly and what would have happened if Chara was allowed to finish the game? Most likely some dirty plays directed at him and it would not have been a period of hockey. Players are getting bigger, stronger, and the play is getting faster. Just because someone got injured (Albeit severe) it should NOT result in major fines or suspensions. Good judgment on behalf of the NHL, as I personally will wish my best to Max and the Pacioretty family.

When slowed down you can see Chara look at the Canadien player then look up. Chara knew where the Habs head was going. I coach a midget AA team most of my players think that it is now OK to smash an opposition players head into the turnbuckle even though they are coached not to. This afternoon at least three players in the game tried to emulate Chara (luckily they were unsuccessful). Did the NHL really get it right?

hahahaha yes in slow motion..... you have to remember that in real time there was no possible way for chara to have made an educated decision to smash his head go drive at 30khm and try and throw a rock at a sign, one in a million shot. same deal here it was a freak accident with a horrible out come. every one in the NHL is okay with the call so how is an AA coach so not ?????in regards to your coaching horse crap maybe you need to re-evaluate your coaching skills, I played hockey many moons ago and tried to do the same thing, my coach smacked me on the back of the helmet and said "you pull that shit again and you will never see the ice". If your kids have half a brain they would have seen the out come and not wanted to see that site every again. just because your hockey is in slow mo doesn't mean the nhl moves in slow motion. For the coach of a team you have a very unreasonable look on the hit. next time your on the ice skate your fastest then double it. That's the speed an NHL'er is moving at
